The Australasian Faculty of Occupational & Environmental Medicine will offer an extensive program featuring a wide range of topics under the theme of “From Policy development to implementation”. Keynote speakers will address particular issues relating to occupational and environmental exposures relevant to the specialty.

The Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine program will feature local, national and international speakers.

Two concurrent streams will be run over the two days and will include forums on travel medicine, drugs and alcohol and spinous injuries.

In addition to this stimulating program, the Ramazzini presentations will provide an opportunity for trainees to present a specific area of their training or research.

2009 Ferguson-Glass Oration

The Ferguson-Glass Oration recognises two of AFOEM’s most illustrious members:  Professor William (Bill) Glass from New Zealand and Professor David Ferguson (1920 – 2002) from Australia.  The Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine is indebted to Professors Glass and Ferguson for their contribution to the Faculty's development.

The Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine has great pleasure in announcing that the Ferguson-Glass Oration for 2009 will be presented by Professor Kyle Steenland.

Dr Kyle SteenlandTopic: PFOA: A five year research plan to study effects of community and worker exposure in a contaminated community in the US, and some preliminary results
Kyle Steenland is a Professor in the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health in the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. Prior to coming to Emory he spent 20 years at NiOSH conducting occupational epidemiologic studies. His work at Emory is focused on the health effects of PFOA, a fluorinated hydrocarbon which is widespread in the envirorment.

Dr Steenland is also involved in studies of neurodegenerative disease.

Accommodation Booking Deadline: 9 April 2009

A minimum one night’s deposit must be paid or credit card details given at time of booking to guarantee reservation. Bookings made after 9 April 2009 must be secured with credit card details.

Abstract Submissions Now Closed

Presenters will be advised of their status during mid-March.
