Blackwell Publishing Clinical Excellence Award
Prize: $1500
Best of the Grand Rounds letter from Convenor of the Adult Medicine Scientific Program
All Adult Medicine Advanced Trainees are eligible to apply to present a clinical case at the Adult Medicine Scientific Meeting on 13 – 14 May during the 2008 RACP Congress in Adelaide. Six cases will be selected, with the best presenter receiving the Blackwell Publishing Clinical Excellence Award (A$1500). Ideal presentations would be cases which have been presented at recent Grand Rounds.
Selection: Any case that illustrates an important or interesting clinical issue will be considered. Cases that illustrate emerging or groundbreaking treatments or a recently ‘discovered’ facet of an established area of medicine are particularly encouraged. Selection criteria will include educational value and quality of the presentation. The case should be selected and the presentation prepared in consultation with your supervisor.
How to submit:
- Submit your initial abstract via the online form as per the abstract submission instructions.
- Note that the headings Introduction, Method/Design, Results and Conclusion (listed in the template abstract) are not required for clinical care abstract.
- Submissions close on Thursday 24 January 2008.
- If the case is selected, you will be asked to provide an expanded abstract, which will include the case, selected questions for discussion, relevant literature review and 2-5 key references. An example will shortly be posted on the Congress website.
Presentation: Audience participation is an important part of the session. Following a 10-minute presentation by the case presenter, the session chair will ask the audience for any questions specifically regarding the case presentation. The presenter will present her/his previously selected questions for discussion and discuss these and the case for about 10 minutes, referring to key references. Finally, there will be a general audience discussion for 10 minutes followed by a summary of the key points identified in the discussion.
Travel Grants: The Adult Medicine Division Council is offering grants to cover the travel and accommodation expenses of the six trainees selected to present cases (travel to and from the Adelaide Convention Centre within Australasia and one night’s accommodation in Adelaide).
Questions: Please direct any questions about the process to Fairlie Clifton, Executive Officer, Adult Medicine Division - tel. +61 2 9256 5470 or fairlie.clifton@racp.edu.au
