Professional Skills Day

Monday 7 May
The Professional Skills Day will consist of a range of sessions to help you develop some of the skills identified in the new RACP Professional Qualities Curriculum, including: Communicating with patients who have chronic conditions; e-health; quality improvement; informed patient consent. There will also be two RACP Trainee Research Awards - one for Adult Medicine finalists, and one for Paediatrics & Child Health finalists.

Adult Medicine Division

Tuesday 8 - Wednesday 9 May 2007
In response to feedback from recent meetings we are developing a program consisting of high quality specialty updates on a wide range of clinical topics.

Highlights of the program will be:

  • Advances in the Management of Stroke
  • Affluenza - The Epidemic of 'Diabesity'
  • The Clinical Year in Review
Sessions in which speakers will present the most important new papers on evidence-based medicine. The focus will be on key messages from recent clinical trials and their effect on clinical practice. Topics will include:
    • Cardiovascular and renal disease
    • Gastroenterology
    • Rheumatology
    • Neurology
  • A joint session with the Paediatrics & Child Health Division on Adolescent Health and the Transition to Adult Care
  • The Best of Grand Rounds
Building on the success of the Advanced Trainee case presentations at the 2006 meeting, there will be two sessions in which Trainees present and discuss their cases.  An excellent opportunity to learn from our talented younger generation and enjoy stimulating speaker/audience interaction.

We believe the program will be attractive to Fellows and Trainees alike, and we encourage as many Trainees as possible to attend.

The Adult Medicine Dinner will be held on Tuesday, 8 May 2007. Join us for a relaxed and convivial evening.

Paediatrics & Child Health Annual Meeting

Tuesday 8 - Thursday 10 May 2007
The 2007 Paediatrics & Child Health Annual Meeting will be held from 8-10 May 2007. The theme for the meeting is Paediatric Neurology.

What can you expect from the 2007 program?

  • Expert sessions, clinical updates and controversies on a variety of relevant topics for the busy paediatrician.
  • Cutting edge clinical and research sessions in paediatric neurology, of relevance to both general paediatricians and community paediatricians.
  • A wide range of topics for community paediatricians in the areas of population health, child protection and child development and behaviour.
  • Joint sessions for paediatricians and adult physicians on transitional care and consent and confidentiality in adolescent patients

The Paediatrics & Child Health Annual Dinner is to be held at the Melbourne Aquarium.  After the success of the previous two years, another joint dinner is to be arranged for members of the Chapter of Community Child Health and the Regional and General Paediatric Society.
