RACP Excellence in Mentoring Awards
The RACP Excellence in Mentoring Awards were established last year to raise the profile of mentoring, encourage Fellows to volunteer to mentor their junior colleagues and demonstrate that mentoring is an activity the profession values.
There were four categories of Mentoring Awards: Academic and Research, Rural, Clinical and Professional Practice, and Humanitarian. Fellows in all Divisions, Faculties and Chapters in both Australia and New Zealand were all eligible for the Awards.
The prize for each category consists of an RACP Congress package and award plaque. Winners were invited to attend the Congress to receive their plaques.
The winners for 2007 were:
Fary Khan - Academic and Research
Peter Eastaugh – Rural
Laila Rotstein - Clinical and Professional Practice
Vasikaran Naganathan - Humanitarian
Invitation
On behalf of the Congress Steering Committee, it is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2008 RACP Congress in the beautiful city of Adelaide.
Once more, the Congress is providing a rich variety of educational sessions which we believe will be of interest and value to all physicians and paediatricians. The sessions will be delivered by national and international speakers with considerable expertise in their fields. There will be time within each session for Fellows and Trainees to engage with these experts so that you can get the best out of each session. We are again also providing the opportunity for delegates to meet speakers face-to-face in an informal atmosphere at Speakers' Corner, to be held within the Trade Exhibition. We are delighted that IMSANZ is holding their Annual Scientific Meeting as part of the RACP Congress.
The popular Professional Skills Day will again be held on the Monday and the program promises to be a stimulating experience. The Adult Medicine scientific program will run from Tuesday to Wednesday and the Paediatrics & Child Health scientific program will run from Tuesday to Thursday. On Sunday the 11 May there will be several workshops on various education and other topics which will be of interest to many Fellows and trainees of the College and other medical colleges.
I do hope that all attendees will also have time to visit the Trade Exhibition, and to enjoy interacting with colleagues. Please also take the opportunity to enjoy Adelaide itself.
One of the highlights of the Congress will be the Congress Dinner on the Monday evening at which we will be celebrating the 70th Birthday of the College.
I would like to thank the Congress Steering Committee and its organising committees who have put together a great program, the many speakers who have agreed to participate, the supporters, sponsors and trade exhibitors for their very generous contributions to the meeting, and of course I thank you all as delegates for your participation.

The Royal Australasian College of Physicians’ Annual Congress is its most important meeting. The Congress takes a central position in the College’s mission of bringing about quality improvement and professional development in health care for all.

The Internal Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand (IMSANZ), following on our highly successful 2007 meeting with the Geriatricians is joining with the RACP in 2008 for our Annual Scientific Meeting. This promises again to be an exciting blend of original research papers, topics designed for the generalist and specific clinical updates.
